How It All Began...
This all started accidentally. I want to make it clear that I do NOT claim to be the
maven of clean. Actually, I think cleaning is very time consuming and repetitive. I
feel good when it’s done, but feel annoyed that within a short time, I have to start
all over again!
I’m basically indifferent to the many choices in products and brands. Some clean
this; others clean that; some make me feel nauseous; and most never seem to be
entirely used up before I toss them out. So here is my story of how I came to create
EZ Clean Green.
I was producing a newsletter for a client. I needed to find helpful information for
them to insert into their newsletter. Since they are a family farm and grow natural
range fed meats, it seemed to make sense to head into the area of health and
sustainability. I had seen many articles on cleaning with natural substances such
as baking soda and vinegar, but I had never tried using them until I was doing
research for the newsletter. I found some recipes and mixed up a batch or two.
Here were my first impressions:
- What container do I mix this stuff in?
- What’s it supposed to look like?
- Which recipes should I follow?
- Am I doing this right?
- What can or can’t I clean with this?
One thing was certain as I struggled with the mechanics of it all—my bathroom
never looked so clean and sparkly. Holy smokes I thought, this stuff works!
I started some casual research and asked others (okay, women) if they ever
cleaned, using items from their kitchen cupboards. Some said they were aware of
using vinegar for windows but other than that, most were unfamiliar with the
concept. Further questioning revealed that they would indeed be interested in
trying it if it were convenient. I realized that everyone understood and supported the
green aspect of using these ingredients (chemical free cleaning, inexpensive,
less bottles in the landfill, better for your indoor air quality and ground water). But
would people actually go through the process of mixing their own cleaning
solutions? In reality, the sustainability of a product has more to do with usability; it
has to be easy for people to use.
My marketing mind went to work. What if I could assemble a kit that pretty much
had everything a person would need to get started? Immediately I thought of my
own experience and the information I had gathered from my informal
conversations.
- The bottles needed to be labeled so that when others were reaching under
the sink, they would know immediately what was in them.
- The recipes needed to be on the bottles! (I had to run back to my computer
numerous times in order to remake my now favorite cleaning solutions.)
- I needed labels that could get wet and bottles that could be shaken and
squeezed.
This turned out to be a bigger project than I expected! It took months of
researching bottles, recipes, and packaging. The driving force for moving forward
was the nonstop positive comments and feedback I was getting from my test
group. Every time I thought this was silly and not a good use of my time, I would
get poked and prodded to continue. The cleaning recipes just plain worked and
women felt good using the products, knowing that they were not absorbing
chemicals and toxins in an effort to simply clean their homes. So that is how and
why EZ Clean Green came about. I love these products; I love turning others onto
them, and I hope you do, too.

Our Mission
EZ Clean Green as a company takes a strong stand when it comes to contributing
to the sustainability of our planet. Choices we make, such as using local
businesses to produce our packaging, using recycled materials whenever
possible, and contributing by educating consumers on healthy choices show
evidence of our commitment. Our company contribution is small in comparison to
other forward-thinking organizations like Google and Hannaford Supermarkets
have, but none the less, we are proud.
Personally, working on EZ Clean Green has required me to question my
contribution as a world citizen. I try not to feel entitled, and question how I can
make a positive contribution. No act is too small, and all acts have impact.
The mission of EZ Clean Green is to add to the solution and not be part of the
problem.
